Stefanowski Calls for West Haven Mayor to Resign; Immediate Forensic Audit of State COVID-19 Funds

March 31, 2022

Branford, CT- Bob Stefanowski, candidate for Governor of Connecticut, calls for West Haven Mayor to resign and immediate forensic audit of state COVID-19 funds.

“Enough is enough already. This is an injustice to the people of West Haven, a community already paying some of the highest local taxes in the state, being overseen by the Municipal Accountability Review Board because their local finances are in such a disarray, and the report released today only adds insult to injury. An alarming $244,000 of the $1.1 million in COVID-19 related funds were spent on COVID-19 related expenses,” said Stefanowski.

“The Mayor of West Haven should resign, she knew they were under scrutiny by the MARB, and she failed to put the protections in place to ensure that local resources were protected and spent with the residents needs in mind,” said Stefanowski. “No-bid contracts, with unauthorized vendors that included a twenty piece marching band, a motivational speaker, unsubstantiated overtime and bonuses, not to mention over six hundred thousand dollars in personal expenses made by Rep. DiMassa, who’s been indicted for his abuse of the public trust.”

“Shame not only on the Mayor, but on Governor Lamont and his Administration for failing to put procedures in place that would protect these funds from being abused,” said Stefanowski. “We need an immediate forensic audit of all COVID-19 funds spent by the State of Connecticut. Billions of dollars are being spent and nobody is providing oversight or holding people accountable. That sadly seems to be the trend and people across the state are paying the price.”

“These documents must be turned over to the F.B.I. and to the Chief’s State’s Attorney for further investigation, and the Governor and his Administration must be held accountable for failing to protect the public trust,” Stefanowski concluded.
